Bellingham Film Workshops are usually six-week instructional courses designed for beginners. Built with interaction in mind, these weekly meetings offer hands-on training in a friendly group setting.

Short Screenplay Workshop with Josh Krenz

We are not currently offering this workshop. If you are interested in learning more about screenwriting, please attend our free monthly Script Studio events.

Back again this year by popular demand, this
 weekly three-hour masterclass is spread out over six sessions, introducing narrative, format, and structural fundamentals to help you become a stronger screenwriter. 

Open to everyone, regardless of experience or background, this program features a friendly and supportive learning environment where you can expand your professional skills.


This workshop focuses on writing short screenplays and will include the following topics:
  • Screenplay formats
  • Overview of screenwriting software and how to use it
  • Steps for developing a premise into a story
  • Fundamentals of narrative storytelling
  • Building stakes, escalation, and obstacles into your screenplay
  • Story and scene structure
  • Tips for avoiding cliches
  • Outlining models to improve your writing process

Participants will exit the program with a completed short screenplay and the tools necessary for writing their own projects.

More About Josh Krenz

Josh Krenz is a screenwriter and filmmaker who currently coordinates Bellingham Film's Script to Screen educational mentoring program and the Bellingham Script Studio, where scripts are developed in a pro-writer environment.

Josh has produced dozens of short films, written hundreds more, and won a few awards along the way. In the past he's worked for Brillstein Entertainment Partners doing project evaluation and script coverage for clients. At various points in his life he has judged scripts for the BlueCat Screenplay Competition, conducted adaptation analysis of novels for a boutique publisher, and consulted on the development of several short and feature screenplays.

This is Josh's second year teaching this workshop for Bellingham Film and we can't thank him enough for the the time and energy he gives to the Bellingham Film community.
